GCC-Stat Conducts Workshop with UAE National Bureau of Statistics

Central to its commitment towards enhancing the development of timely and reliable statistics in GCC countries, the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf Countries (GCC-Stat) is conducting a workshop in collaboration with the UAE National Bureau of Statistics in Abu Dhabi on the 3rd of June 2014. The primary goal of the workshop is to improve and standardize short-term economic and social indicators, and to provide all participants with a knowledge sharing forum where the best practice of statistical analysis and reporting can be discussed in a collaborative manner.

During the 3-day workshop, representatives from GCC Stat and the UAE National Bureau of Statistics will discuss ways to enhance coordination between the two entities, as well as brief concerned authorities and official departments to ensure the efficient and timely sharing of short term social and economic indicators. Participants will also discuss the increasing requirement for timely and accurate short term indicators which are essential for decision-makers in the public and private sectors. The accuracy of such indicators enables policy makers in the public sector to evaluate the economic performance of their respective countries in the short term and make informed decisions on future infrastructure projects and the changing needs of society. Additionally, accurate and timely short-term social and economic indicators are essential for establishing economic and monetary policies in addition to making informed economic decisions.
The objective of the workshop aims to support the development and standardization of short term indicators across the GCC, as well as to chart the current and future requirements for reliable economic social data to support the future development plans for respective GCC member states. Additionally, the workshop provides a forum to review the development plans of the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf Countries, which address the need for timely and reliable statistical information for GCC member states in order to achieve common goals.
