The Statistical Center for the GCC congratulates Kuwait
On the occasion of Kuwait celebrations for the 54th anniversary of National day and the 24th anniversary of Liberation, the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat) sends warm sentiments and sincere congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to state officials and the people of Kuwait on these dear occasions. Due to its wise leadership and the sincere loyalty of the people of Kuwait, the achievement march of the country has been recognized as an ambitious and pioneering model, which has delivered numerous achievements for Kuwait throughout the years, leading the country to a prominent status in the international community.
Additionally, Kuwait has an iconic role in supporting humanitarian efforts, and was identified by the United Nations in 2014 as an “International Humanitarian Center” and naming His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a “Humanitarian Leader”, highlighting Kuwait’s supportive role for humanitarian and developmental work around the world
Kuwait has witnessed remarkable economic progress which is reflected by the main economic indicators. According to the recent statistics, the gross domestic product with current rates shows an increase by 1% and USD $175,835 Million in 2013, compared with USD $174,033 Million in 2012. The general government expenditure has also registered an increase in 2013 with USD $67,018 Million, compared to USD $66,911 Million in 2012. Kuwait’s foreign trade has grown to reach USD $143 Billion in 2013, compared with USD $142 Billion in 2012, while total exports reached USD $114 Billion in 2013, and total imports at USD $29 Billion, which led to a trade balance surplus of surplus of USD $85 Billion in 2013.
Kuwait has consistently upgraded education services and facilities, which is reflected in the increased number of students in government and private schools by 2.7% in 2013, recording 610,000 students, in contrast with 594, 000 students in 2012. Additionally, number of registered teachers increased by 3.3% in 2013, with more than 75,000 teacher versus 73,000 teachers recorded in 2012.
In addition, Kuwait has also strived to develop national health services, focusing on the geographical distribution of different health service centers in all provinces, including health care centers, health complexes and hospitals. That growth has been represented with the number of registered Doctors in Kuwait rising by 10% in 2013 recording 9,904, in contrast with the previous 2012 total of with 9,008, as well as the increased number of hospital beds in 2013 with 8,120 compared with 7,964 in 2012. The number of government and private hospitals reached a total of 30 hospitals in 2013.
The human development report of 2014 issued by the United Nations, applauded the affective role of Kuwait in human development considering it a corner stone and an essential base to promote social development in a comprehensive way. Kuwait has placed great importance on human development this in turn led to a noticeable increase of Kuwaiti living standards that according to the human development indicators has enabled it to compete with advanced countries as one of the advanced human development countries.
